Mileage Reimbursement

Volunteer Caregiving in Minnesota is facing a challenge when it comes to Mileage Reimbursement.  Theresa Eklov reports that her program, Faith in Action of Cass County, must file 1099s on volunteers who receive more than $599 in annual reimbursements.  Her program reimburses above the 14.5 cent per mile federal rate and anything above that is considered income.  Once it reaches $600, volunteers are issued a 1099 which they have to file as income.  Her State of Minnesota is trying to work through Congress to have the volunteer mileage rate set equal to the business rate.  At least it’s a starting point for negotiations.  More to come on this topic.  If you have a similar situation, weigh in on this blog post.
