TASK FORCE 40

NVCN Celebrates 40 years of Volunteer Caregiving

Leading up to the Year 2024, a task force of volunteer professionals from around the nation will be preparing to mark the 40th anniversary of Volunteer Caregiving.  Thanks to the volunteers listed below who have committed to lending 1-2 hours per week, using their marketing and public relations skills to bring this important mission to the American forefront.

With more Americans over the age of 65 than we have under the age of five, COVID helped to demonstrate the essential services than volunteers of all ages can provide when it comes to grocery shopping, critical medical rides and combatting social isolation.  We estimate more than 350,000 volunteers helped more than 500,000 homebound seniors through Volunteer Caregiving.  This is a demonstrated endeavor for a marginalized population that has been flying under the radar for nearly 40 years.

The 40th Anniversary Task Force of public relations/marketing specialists are joining forces to promote this important milestone in our history.  Led by Chief Strategist Gail Morgan of Stacy Miller Public Affairs, the Task Force members will be working together with local program directors to assemble a toolbox of resources such as workshops, design templates, press releases that can be used for the benefit of the local volunteer caregiving programs throughout the country. Upwards of 1,000 volunteer caregiving organization operate annually on $350,000 with two staff, 350 volunteers and serves 500+ seniors or people with disabilities.  An Anniversary Task Force will sound like a luxury to most of these local programs, but it is a critical component in helping to raise awareness of this mission.

Professionals interested in joining the Task Force should be prepared to lend a couple hours per week to bring their ideas to the campaign and guide the local program in successful implementation.  Professional talent will impact the local program’s ability to recruit more volunteers and funding.  Initially, the Task Force will meet one every month or two to help design the campaign, and our goal is to also recruit student interns who are so eager to gain practical experience.
