Let’s Get Ready to Walk the Block!

In celebration of the 35th Anniversary of Volunteer Caregiving, programs across the country are invited to set a date to Walk the Block™ and spread the news about this successful model of Human Services launched in 1984 by Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Faith in Action ™ project.  Pull some volunteers together, put your sneakers on and go house-to-house, campaign-style, to bring information and opportunity to your neighbors.

NVCN Lead Ambassador Vilma Contreras of Community Partners in Caring in Santa Barbara County is pleased to share their signature Walk the Block™ project, and NVCN is delighted to pass this on to members and non-members alike.  Of course, if you’re a member, you’ll benefit from strong network support and there’s no better time than now to join NVCN.

Use this project with your local program to:

  • Help recruit and retain volunteers
  • Inform vulnerable members of your community about the volunteer caregiving services you offer
  • Develop new donors

Here’s how!

  1. Identify 30 volunteers for each city you plan to target
  2. Pick a date when it’s nice to be outdoors
  3. Get organized with materials and talking points
  4. Consider sponsorship opportunities
  5. Remember to say Thank You!
